WORLD mu­sic com­pany ShivaNova is bring­ing an out­stand­ing line-up of lead­ing in­ter­na­tional mu­si­cians, dancers and sto­ry­tellers to Ash­ford. Fol­low­ing two suc­cess­ful sea­sons last year, the Equa­tor World Mu­sic Se­ries is pre­sent­ing a spring sea­son with a pro­gramme of con­tem­po­rary mu­sic, dance and the­atre. Sup­ported by the Arts Coun­cil Eng­land and Ash­ford Bor­ough Coun­cil, it will run from March to July, with per­for­mances span­ning the Congo, Bul­garia, Ja­pan, In­dia, Brazil, Ar­gentina and North­ern Eng­land. St Mary’s Church in the town cen­tre, Nor­ton Knatch­bull School, and Brake Hall at Ash­ford School will host the line-up of artists in­clud­ing Ka­sai Ma­sai from the Congo, Lon­don Bul­gar­ian Choir and the much-an­tic­i­pated Mu­genkyo Taiko Drum­mers. Equa­tor will also be host­ing a choir com­pe­ti­tion for am­a­teur choirs of all ages from across Kent. The com­pe­ti­tion is open to en­trants and the dead­line to en­ter is May 6. A con­cert fea­tur­ing the 10 short­listed choirs will be held on July 2. The sea­son ends with folk singer Jez Lowe and the Bad Pen­nies in July and an evening of tango and In­dian mu­sic, fea­tur­ing the Phil­har­mo­nia Tango and ShivaNova.
