Tears of relief Defendant breaks down as jury clears him of murder Doorman with history of violence was shot in chest
A HOMEOWNER who blasted a “bully” to death at point-blank range as he tried to break into his home has been cleared of murder. A jury took just one hour yesterday (Wednesday) to unanimously acquit Kenneth Batchelor, who wept with relief.
Afterwards, Mr Batchelor said: “I do not believe this should have gone to court in the first place.”
His sobbing wife Linda added: “It has been such an ordeal.”
The court heard that the victim, 42year-old Matt Clements, an Ashford doorman with a history of violence, was shot at point-blank range with a shotgun after he had repeatedly threatened Mr Batchelor at his Chilham home.
