PUPILS at 11 Ashford Schools are set to embark on a virtual bike race around the world.

Over the next month, 700 pupils will be given the chance to follow in the footsteps of the cycling adventurer Alastair Humphreys who spent four years cycling 46,000 miles around the world.

They will be racing against 140 other schools from across England to see who can be first to complete the challenge, organised by the sustainable transport charity Sustrans.

The race aims to get pupils, parents and teachers cycling. Each time a pupil, parent or teacher cycles to school, miles will be added to their school’s journey around the world.

The schools taking part are Beaver Green Community; John Wesley; Kingsnorth; The North; St Mary’s; Willesborough Junior; Phoenix Community; St Simon; Tenterden Junior; The Towers and Norton Knatchbull.
