Davey cap­tures Mas­ters gold

ASH­FORD Ath­let­ics Club mem­bers Peter Davey, Steve Lang­ford and Les Wood re­turned from the Bri­tish Mas­ters In­door Cham­pi­onships at Lee Val­ley with one gold and three sil­ver medals. Davey was the star of the show, grab­bing gold in the 35 to 39-year-old high jump event with a leap of 1.65m. He also se­cured a sil­ver in the 60m hur­dles in a time of 9.04sec. Lang­ford jumped 10.25m to claim sil­ver in the 50 to 54-year-old triple jump and Wood was a sil­ver medal­list in the 60 to 64-yearold long jump, leap­ing 4.24m. The league sea­son starts on April 27. Any­one in­ter­ested in com­pet­ing (over35s) can join train­ing ses­sions at the Julie Rose Sta­dium on Tues­days and Thurs­days be­tween 7-8pm. ASH­FORD & District Road Run­ners claimed the team prize at the Lydd Half-Marathon on Sun­day. Robert Car­pen­ter’s fifth-place fin­ish (1hr 21min 42sec ), cou­pled with Wayne Val­las’ ninth po­si­tion (1.23.35) and Jonathan Reeves’ good run (1.29.44) com­pleted the vic­to­ri­ous line-up. Steve Mar­shall (1.37.50) and Mick James (1:45.15) were the other club mem­bers to fin­ish. As their prepa­ra­tion con­tin­ues for the Lon­don Marathon in April, sev­eral mem­bers will be tak­ing on the Hast­ings Half-Marathon on Sun­day. Car­pen­ter had pre­vi­ously fin­ished 12th in the Thanet 20-Mile Road Race, post­ing a per­sonal best time of 2.10.11. Ja­son Win­dle clocked 2.41.47 and Mick James 3.04.16. In the South Downs, Steve Hick­man fin­ished his 49th marathon in 4hrs40mins.
