Folkestone unable to hold back leaders
FOLKESTONE suffered a third successive home defeat in the Ryman League Division 1 South, losing to in-form Cray Wanderers on Saturday.
It was a sixth straight league win for table-topping Cray, who took a 3-0 lead, before Frankie Chappell scored a late consolation for Neil Cugley’s side.
Folkestone made changes to the side that drew at Corinthian- Casuals the week before. Kieran Byrne replaced James Everitt (hamstring) in attack but came off at half-time with a recurrence of his knee injury.
Billy Swallow came in at leftback in place of Josh Vincent (virus).
Early chances fell to both teams and Folkestone were given a scare when Colin Luckett hit a post.
Jamie Wood, who had a brief spell at Folkestone, gave Cray the lead on 27 minutes when his shot bounced in off the underside of the bar after strike partner Leigh Bremner had set him up.
James Dryden shot a chance wide before the break and Cray went into the interval a goal ahead.
That lead was doubled soon after the re-start when Scott Kinch netted from close range.
Steve Aris made it 3-0 in the 68th minute when he headed home a cross from Wood.
Chappell pulled a goal back two minutes from time when he converted Jimmy Jackson’s corner kick.
