Artist’s rights of way project
CATHY Streeter returns to Ashford town centre tomorrow (Friday) for her latest unusual challenge.
The Ashford-based artist, whose last project was drawing cows on the walls of the old Elwick Road market site, has now received funding for a study of the alleys and lanes in the heart of the town.
The project will eventually lead to installations there as part of the Art and Architecture festival in September.
Called Hidden Passages, the artist wants to discuss stories of ancient and present rights of way, many with medieval origins, that may have been forgotten over the decades.
She will be in The George Hotel from 10am to 1pm tomorrow (Friday) to listen to and record stories.
She said: “It is a fascinating historical project with many unknown facts.
“Not many realise there is a public right of passage through The George Hotel from the High Street to Park Street, and to prove it someone once drove a flock of geese through the pub.”
