Soroptimists give charity a lift

IT’S been a busy time for Ashford Soroptimists. The group presented a cheque for £1,520 to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The cash was raised over the year in a variety of ways for president Felicitie Sykes’ chosen charity. Each year members organise a range of fund-raising events and service activities to benefit the local community as well as national and international charities and deserving causes. Soroptimist club members and friends also raised their glasses for charity during a lively evening at the Willesborough Windmill Barn last month at a fun wine tasting. After an informative talk by Hilde-Marie Smith from Catering4Kent, a competition to identify whether wines came from the Old World or New World was held, followed by a buffet meal. The evening raised £292 for the Soroptimist Project Sierra, that provides homes for children in one of the world’s poorest countries, Sierra Leone.

Soroptimist International is an organisation for professional and business women.
