Fadagio’s treble the catalyst for victory
FOLKESTONE Optimists Ladies moved up to second in the East League Division 1 South table with a 6-4 victory at struggling Gravesend on Saturday.
However, they made hard work of their success and in fact found themselves a goal behind early on.
But this provoked a quick response from Ops, with good work by Kate Dolan and Lucy Delbridge setting up a clinical finish by Janet Fadagio.
Soon after Fadagio broke through again and her fierce shot put Ops in front.
Then, after Gravesend had a good looking short corner goal disallowed, Folkestone made it 3-1 at the break when Polly Wittleton deflected a cross into the path of Lucy Anderson and she slipped the ball home from close range.
In the first 15 minutes of the second half Ops produced their best hockey of the game.
Fadagio completed her hattrick from a cross by Anderson, Wittleton pounced on a loose ball in the D to shoot home, and Nikki Timmins walked the ball into the net at a short corner to make it 6-1.
However, Ops then produced some complacent defending to allow Gravesend to score three more times before the final whistle.
Ops travel to third-bottom Old Loughtonians 2nd on Saturday.
