Ashford are in charge
GOING FORWARD: Vigo defeat avenged as eighth victory of the campaign is secured
ASHFORD avenged their one point Kent 1 defeat to Vigo in September by comfortably beating their north Kent visitors at Kinney’s Field on Saturday.
With a relaxed, indifferent opposition in front of them, Ashford’s forwards took the game to Vigo.
An unsettling period for the away side saw JJ Murray kick Ashford into a 6-0 lead, an advantage that could have been more by half-time but for hefty Vigo tackling.
The second half saw the hosts keep up the pressure, and although the visitors created a few opportunities they regularly conceded penalties, nullifying any threat.
It was left to Will Alkin to settle the game in Ashford’s favour, as the full-back sliced through a hesitant defence to score. Murray then added the conversion to secure Ashford’s eighth victory of the campaign.
This Saturday Ashford travel to Medway for a rearranged Kent 1 encounter. ASHFORD under-17s put in a subdued performance on Sunday in going down 18-7 at Dover.
With uncontested scrums hampering Ashford’s cause, Dover were 13-0 up by half-time. Arthur Bates’ try, and Darryl Mills’ conversion put the visitors within touching distance, before Dover scored again to finish the tie.
The under-16s extended their decent run with an impressive 2910 win at Gravesend.
Dan Crawford, Rory Beech, Gareth Jenner and Tom Collins scored the tries, with Adam Batt adding a penalty and three conversions.
Tom Moon won player-of-theweek.
