Driver cut free af­ter van crashes into pole

A DRIVER was trapped for an hour by his legs af­ter his van hit a tele­graph pole. The Royal Mail de­liv­ery van crashed shortly af­ter 6.30am on Wed­nes­day in Cran­brook Road, Fosten Green, Bid­den­den. Fire­fight­ers used hy­draulic cut­ting equip­ment to free the vic­tim and he was taken to Ash­ford’s William Har­vey Hospi­tal. South Kent Po­lice spokesman Rosy Alexan­der said: “The vic­tim had been trapped be­hind his steer­ing wheel and he suf­fered leg in­juries. But he was found to have non-life threat­en­ing in­juries.” Two fire en­gines, from the Ten­ter­den and Cran­brook re­tained sta­tions were called and po­lice re­opened the road just be­fore 8am.
