Society to perform Elgar’s finest
ASHFORD Choral Society, under their conductor Mark Deller, will be giving a performance of Elgar’s oratorio The Kingdom in the Saga Pavilion in Sandgate this Saturday at 7.30pm. The 130-strong choir and an orchestra of 70 players will be joined by soprano Olivia Robinson, mezzo Susan Legg, tenor Neil Jenkins, and baritone Jeremy Huw Williams. Written just a few years after the composer’s much-loved Dream of Gerontius, The Kingdom was considered by the conductor Sir Adrian Boult to be Elgar’s finest choral work. Tickets £18 and £12 (free for children) will be available at the door on the night.
