A NEW wooden cross has been erected on top of St Francis Church in Cryol Road, South Ashford.

It replaces the original cross, which had been in place for nearly 50 years, but fell apart two years ago.

The cross has been paid for by a couple who are due to be married at the church later this year.

The new Priest in Charge of Christ Church and St Francis Church, the Rev Anthony Hirst, was due to be licensed by the Bishop of Dover in a ceremony at St Francis last night (Wednesday).

A dance school is branching out. The Tenterden-based Feet Beats Dance Academy, run by Amy Mead, will open its new branch at the FTD Dance Centre on the Henwood Industrial Estate in Ashford just after Easter. The dance school is for girls aged five to 16-plus and specialises in cheerleading. Miss Mead said: “Children will learn all the cheer basics, rules, chants and when ready and fit will learn stunts and tumbling, with extra gymnastic workshops to help learn flips.” For more information call Miss Mead on 07854 381575 or email Feetbeats@hotmail.co.uk
