Five-star Folkestone enjoy best ever season
FOLKESTONE Cricket Club celebrated their most successful indoor season ever by bagging five titles. The senior teams topped Division 1 and 2 of the Folkestone League, as well as winning the Dover League and Folkestone League cup competitions. The Dover Cup was clinched with victory over Betteshanger A in the final at Canterbury, before they beat Sibton Park A in the Folkestone final. The under-15s were also in fine form, taking the Saxon Shore League crown after winning a thrilling decider against St Lawrence by four wickets. Peter Turnbull (28) and Russell Greenhill (25) steered them home, after they had reduced St Lawrence to 61 all out. The under-15s squad included captain Barry Goodsell, Greenhill, Dom Lagrue, Elliot Paige, Joe Payne and Biff Sharrock. Club chairman John Godden said: “In all my many years of cricket at Folkestone I cannot remember a more successful winter campaign.”
Fifty youngsters took part in the KCB Ashford District Indoor Cricket Tournament at the Stour Centre. Eight teams played a round robin competition to find four semi-finalists, which in turn produced two finalists, the Royals and the Crusaders. Batting first in the final, the Royals made 224-5 from their six overs, but it wasn’t enough as the Crusaders responded with 248-1 to win by 24 runs.
