ASHFORD under-11s took part in the Kent Festival at Medway on Sunday.

In their opening match against Maidstone, Ashford produced some superb defensive play before snatching a 1-0 victory through an excellent second-half try by Rhys Cowdry-Howes.

Ashford then battled to a goalless draw in a physically tough encounter with Sheppey.

Their third opponents were Sidcup, and here Ashford met their match in a side who seemed to grow stronger as the game went on, with the north Kent side eventually winning 5-0.

It meant that Ashford went into their final match against Westcombe Park needing a victory to clinch a place in this weekend’s finals, but with injuries and tiredness taking their toll they slipped to a 4-0 defeat.
