McBain shines to win medal
CAROL McBain won the March monthly medal competition held by the Homelands Golf Club ladies’ section on Saturday.
McBain scored a net 60 playing off a 29 handicap. Second was Jane Dawson (h22) with a net 63.
Saturday afternoon saw the yearly competition between the PUGS society and the Homelands team. The winners this year were the PUGS by six points.
On Sunday, the club held their Hall of Fame qualifying Stableford competition, where the winner goes on to play in the regional final at Hove on August 20. The winner was Steve Collins with 45 points (h18). Runner-up was David Fletcher (h12) with 41.
Sheila Woodgate (h19) won the Cecil Leitch 5-club stableford with a superb 38 points held by Ashford Golf Club ladies’ section.
Jenny Belsham (h26) was runner-up with 36. Woodgate will go to the final at Rochester and Cobham Golf Club in June. The Friday March Medal was won by Chris Collins (h19) with a net 70. Debbie Huckstepp (h17) won the Saturday medal with 75.
Peggy Fenner (h31) had an excellent round in the March Stableford, winning the Bronze Division with 43 points. Elaine Joss (h21) came second with 34. The Silver Division had two contestants on 38 points, with Chris Collins (h19) beating Jackie Luetchford (h19) on countback.
The March nine-hole Stableford was won by Ros Gill (h29) on 20 points.
Pam Mills, the new ladies’ section captain of the London Beach GC, held her drive-in recently.
Pam is a founder member and plays to a handicap of 20. Her charity is the Kent Air Ambulance.
