My party is already starting
This is it – the big countdown has begun… No, no, not for my birthday, for goodness’ sake, which is, by the way, January 17 – not that I want to make a big thing about it, and anyway, January 17 falls on a Sunday next year so I’m not on air. So basically if you were going to do something (not that I want you to, of course) it would be best to do it on the Friday or the Monday, not that I want to harp on about January 17 or be pernickety, I’m just saying, that’s all. No, the countdown I meant was Christmas, of course – 22 days and counting and, as we speak, Advent calendar windows are being opened around the world. And Santa’s making a list and he’s checking it twice, and trust me, he will find out if you’ve been naughty or nice. Personally, I’ve been both naughty and indeed nice, so not sure how that will work out, but I suppose that’s all part of the fun of Christmas morning. I think my favourite present to date, has to be the birth of my son Charlie, who decided he couldn’t wait the two weeks that he should have and decided to join us at seven o’clock on Christmas morning back in 1995, bless him. I have to say, that came as quite a shock to me, but not half as much as it did to my missus. My party is getting started this Friday as I travel down the road to Tenterden and turn on the Christmas lights. I hope you can come out in force and we can celebrate in style. We will be getting up to all sorts of capers, including a very special wrapping game, as well as a mince pie eating competition. There will be some tremendous prizes up for grabs as well as plenty of consolation prizes. Plus I want you to bring along some of the worst presents you have ever been given. I’ve got a plethora of unused gifts (mostly from the mother-in-law) that I’ll be bringing along with me that fall in-between the categories laughable and appalling, and if anyone can outdo me in the rubbish present stakes, then you win even more prizes. After I’ve finished there, I’m hotfooting it over to the Beaver Road Working Men’s Club for a very special auction night. If you recall, there was a tragedy along Beaver Road a few weeks ago. Sadly, two people were killed and a young lady called Rosie was seriously hurt. The poor girl needs a special wheelchair to get around and I really hope we can raise the funds to accommodate her. The auction will start at 8pm but I recommend that you get there nice and early for a comfortable seat and have a couple of libations of course. There are many, many auction lots up for grabs, ranging from EastEnders and Coronation Street signed memorabilia to a hot air balloon trip and loads of sporting items, which include, and I can hardly contain my excitement, a West Ham shirt (framed) and photo of Sir Trevor Brooking scoring the winning goal in the 1980 FA Cup Final against Arsenal. Unbeflipping-lievable. So that’s my Friday night sorted out, do try to join me if you can at one or the other or even better, both.
