Rap star visits school for MySpace gig of the year
SCHOOL days will never be the same again for a group of Ashford pupils who were visited by a chart-topping star.
Highworth Girls’ Grammar School, Ashford, won a national competition organised by website MySpace to have MOBO awardwinning superstar Chipmunk play in their school hall.
Grime artist Chipmunk, whose hits include Oopsy Daisy, Diamond Rings and Chip Diddy Chip, was joined on stage by up and coming rock act You and Me at Six, who have just returned from touring America and are set to play Wembley Arena next year.
The competition was supported by the Department of Health to encourage teenagers to visit www.teenlifecheck.co.uk which covers topics such as drugs, alcohol, personal safety, healthy eating and exercise.
Head teacher Paul Danielsen said: “We’re thrilled we won the MySpace Bash gig this year.
“The competition has really encouraged the girls to do an NHS Teen LifeCheck and to spread the word about it throughout the school, driving more people to the website to try the tool and vote.
“Their enthusiasm has really paid off.”
Year 10 pupil Rose Hardy-Barrett said: “We all completed an NHS Teen LifeCheck to boost our points.
“It was a really interesting quiz that made you think about your health, so we learnt a lot at the same time as winning the competition.”
The Kentish Express managed to grab an exclusive video interview with Chipmunk before he took to the stage. Log on to www.kentishexpress.co.uk to hear it.
