ETCHINGHILL Juniors have enjoyed another impressive year on their own course and around the country. Senior club pro Steve Mitchell and junior organiser Bill Hay have helped to nurture some raw talent into healthy prospects. The Steve Mitchell Trophy took place for the first time this year and will now be a yearly event for the junior golfers. The first winner of the competition was Liam Sutton with an impressive score of 150, 10 over par, with Tom Hay runner-up on gross. Josh Bristow won the net with George Yorke in his wake. Mitchell also organised the first Etchinghill Open Junior Championship which attracted 40 players from far and wide. Home golfer Ashley Knight took the honours with a gross 72 but was pushed back into second on countback. In the club’s Men’s Summer Championship the winners were Ben King and Bristow. Matt Sutton won the net competition as Gillingham GC hosted the Kent Juniors, while brother Liam won the gross. Out and about Russell Greenhill won in his age group in the YMG Masters at the Hellingdon Lakes Club in Warwickshire while, closer to home, Bristow won the Bearsted Open.
