Soapbox derby pay-out
THE proceeds from the Aldington soapbox derby have been handed over to two charities. The event in August raised over £14,000, with £500 held back towards the cost of staging next year’s derby. Of the rest, cheques for £6,840 have now been presented to the Pilgrims Hospice, Ashford, and Aldington charity, the Reynolds Playing Field Association. Sarah Prescott, of the soapbox derby organising committee, said: “We would like to thank the drivers and soapbox builders for their massive efforts on the day and all the sponsorship raised. We would also like to thank Ringway and all the many sponsors for their kind donations. Next year’s event is expected to be held on August 30, with entry forms available from mid-February.
