Soap­box derby pay-out

THE pro­ceeds from the Ald­ing­ton soap­box derby have been handed over to two char­i­ties. The event in Au­gust raised over £14,000, with £500 held back to­wards the cost of stag­ing next year’s derby. Of the rest, cheques for £6,840 have now been pre­sented to the Pil­grims Hospice, Ash­ford, and Ald­ing­ton char­ity, the Reynolds Play­ing Field As­so­ci­a­tion. Sarah Prescott, of the soap­box derby or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee, said: “We would like to thank the driv­ers and soap­box builders for their mas­sive ef­forts on the day and all the spon­sor­ship raised. We would also like to thank Ring­way and all the many spon­sors for their kind do­na­tions. Next year’s event is ex­pected to be held on Au­gust 30, with en­try forms avail­able from mid-Fe­bru­ary.
