Two men charged with mur­der

TWO men have been charged with the mur­der of fa­ther-of­six Paul Hop­kins. Christo­pher Goldfinch and Scott Stevens, both 22, were charged with the mur­der of Mr Hop­kins when they ap­peared at Ash­ford Mag­is­trates’ Court on Thurs­day. They were re­manded in cus­tody and are due to ap­pear again at Maid­stone Crown Court on Mon­day. Mr Hop­kins, 32, suf­fered se­ri­ous head in­juries and had been in a coma since an in­ci­dent out­side his home in Bee­cholme Drive, Ken­ning­ton, on Au­gust 2. His death in the Kent and Can­ter­bury Hospi­tal on Novem­ber 23 had been con­firmed by the Crown Prose­cu­tion Ser­vice at a hear­ing at Maid­stone Crown Court last week. Goldfinch, of Fal­con Way, South Ash­ford, and Stevens, of Au­gus­tus Walk, Kingsnorth, had orig­i­nally been charged with griev­ous bod­ily harm with in­tent and an al­ter­na­tive charge of in­flict­ing griev­ous bod­ily harm.
