Defeat costs ladies
ASHFORD Ladies lost their position at the top of the Kent Women’s Premier Division after slipping to their first league defeat of the season on Saturday.
The result allowed Sevenoaks 3A to take over as outright leaders ahead of the mid-season break after they beat bottom club Remnants 40.
Ashford were confident after successive four-goal wins but they made a a slow start and lacked the cohesion they had shown in earlier games.
Nikki Timms and Charlotte Kite produced some excellent defensive work, but they could not prevent Ashford from falling behind.
Instead of upping their game Ashford heads went down and Holcombe looked the stronger side for the remainder of the first half.
A stern team talk from captain Hayley Richards saw Ashford come back a lot stronger but despite shots on target from Karina Greensmith and Emily Jakeman they were unable to peg back the deficit.
Ashford resume their league programme on Saturday, January 16, 2010, when they entertain Old Williamsonians.
