Town are left frustrated
The hosts started menacingly enough with Dave Cook heading a Gary Clarke free-kick just over the bar and moments later the same man provided, this time for Mike Yianni, but the volley went over. The best chance of the half fell to Kieran Byrne. He met Clarke’s pass with a powerful shot but that and the subsequent follow-up were both blocked. Ian Batten fired wide after Cook diverted John Walker’s cross into a dangerous position. The visitors were quick on the break and Kieron Mann had to make a good save from Nick Graham after they surged forward. Another great chance for Hythe came just after the break. Batten and Yianni combined but the shot from Batten went over the bar. Hythe’s desperation to score left them exposed at the back and Mann had to make another good save, this time to deny Jon Pilbeam. The hosts continued to be thwarted and keeper Mickele Czanner got down well to turn Lee Winfield’s shot around the post. Hythe pushed extra men into their attack to get the winner and in injury-time Clarke saw another goal-bound effort deflected wide.
