Fast train service will be ‘enormous boost’ for the area
It was full steam ahead for the formal launch of the full high speed train service.
COMMUTERS were greeted by the carnival atmosphere of a jazz band playing at the formal launch of the full high-speed service from Ashford.
Passengers catching their trains at Ashford International Station early on Monday morning were also treated to free cups of coffee and bacon rolls
It was all part of the celebration of the arrival of the long-awaited full 37-minute service from London to Ashford, slashing times from the previous 88 minutes.
Ashford’s Future managing director Judith Armitt said: “This is an enormous boost. It means that people can both easily work in London and invest in Ashford. People have been pleasantly surprised as to how quickly the train travels.”
Ashford Borough Council leader Cllr Paul Clokie (Con) said: “It is a real opportunity for Ashford to go forward.”
Both boarded the 0913 train to London St Pancras along with other leading borough figures such as council chief executive John Bunnett.
