High Speed train thrill for youngsters
MEMBERS of the 1st Kennington Beaver Scouts and their leaders were delighted to be invited to visit the Hitachi rail depot located next to the Ashford International station. The group of 24 boys and girls aged between six and eight, accompanied by their leaders and parent helpers were met by the depot manager Neville Dyson, who gave a brief history of the Hitachi Company followed by a railway safety presentation. He then led the group down to the depot’s workshop where they were shown the new high- speed Javelin trains. They then went on a ride on one the trains, taking turns to visit the driver’s cabin. The highlight of the visit for most of the children, and some of the adults, was sitting in the driver’s seat.
