Foster shows fine form
SHELL FOSTER has been in good form in competitions held by Ashford Golf Club ladies’ section.
The 19-handicapper won the Silver Division of the November Stableford with 35 points. Hazel Bristow (h12) was second on 34. The Bronze Divison went to Jenny Belsham (h28) with 31.
And Foster also claimed first place in the December Saturday Medal with a net 76, just edging out Beryl Sutherland (h18) on countback over the back nine. Karen Pickering (h17) won the December Frid
SITTINGBOURNE hold a one point lead in the East Kent Alliance series after three rounds of competition.
Maidstone’s Ridge Golf Club sit just behind in second place and below them in joint third, a further point back, are Ashford and Faversham.
The latest meeting at Broome Park, Canterbury, saw Walmer & Kingsdown pair N Pilcher and J Jezzard claim victory on 44 points ahead of Ashford’s M Head and T Muchmore.
In third with 41 points were S Lovell and D Orton and in fourth were S Durling and P English from The Ridge. Fifth place went to Sheerness pair A Jones and I Daniel. JOHN GLEESON was named Folkestone Golf Club’s player of the year during their recent annual awards.
The Derby Plate, awarded for the best aggregate strokeplay throughout the year, went to Den Green.
The midweek shield was won by Ray Powell while Dave Coles finished runner-up.
Juvenile of the year was 13-year-old Sam Cannon and he won the Godden Cup and the Castle Trophy.
Sam’s nine-year-old brother Jack was awarded with the achievement trophy after finishing nearest the pin in his first trophy competition.
The award ceremony took place during the annual meeting where concerns were raised at the decision not to include the golf course on the list of improvements being made to the sports centre.
