Student attacked in shared space rage
A COLLEGE student who was attacked in Ashford’s shared space in a road rage incident has said Jeremy Clarkson was right when he predicted people would die in a “Jaguar dance of death”.
The 19-year-old, who does not want to be named, said he was walking with his sister and some old school friends when he was nearly run over outside Debenhams.
The South Kent College student said: “I was trying to cross the road and as I did so this Audi driver put his foot down and came at me. He flew past me and I could feel the wind behind me as he zoomed past. I shouted to him it was a 20mph zone and then shared space passed its first anniversary without a single crash. Ashford’s Joint Transportation Board heard that there had been no injury accidents since the scheme began in November 2008.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident. It happened on December 11 at 9-9.30pm on Elwick Road just outside Debenhams. The car was a black Audi A4 and the man had a crew cut.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 01303 289180 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
