Staff un­paid as night­club closes

STAFF at Glis­ten night­club claim to have been left without wages and jobs af­ter the club’s man­agers shut its doors and said it had been taken over.

The night­club in Sta­tion Road, Ash­ford, opened in Novem­ber and em­ployed around 15 bar staff along with door staff and pro­mo­tions peo­ple. But on De­cem­ber 5 the club held its last party and staff now say they do not know what is go­ing to hap­pen to them and the club.

One of those af­fected is 21-year-old Ash­ford res­i­dent Jenna Daniels, who re­ceived an email telling her that the club had been taken over and that the new man­age­ment team would be in touch.

She said: “There’s at least a few hun­dred pounds I’m still owed in wages but I haven’t got a clue if and when I’ll see it.

“All of us work­ing there have tried to phone but we can’t get through to any­one. I’m now un­em­ployed and it’s ex­tremely dif­fi­cult to find an­other job at the mo­ment. It’s a hor­ri­ble thing to have hap­pened just be­fore Christ­mas.”

The last email re­ceived by Jenna says that for­mer man­agers “do not have a con­tact num­ber” and that “If you are pass­ing by the club it may be worth check­ing to see if any­one is there”.

The Ken­tish Ex­press at­tempted to con­tact the night­club but the phone line has been dis­con­nected.

Folke­stone res­i­dent Amy Adams, 22, who worked in pro­mo­tions, said: “There just seems to be no news about what is hap­pen­ing. I feel re­ally sorry for the bar staff. For some­thing like this to hap­pen to them just be­fore Christ­mas is ter­ri­ble.”

We con­tacted for­mer per­son­nel man­ager Jan­ice Wil­son by email. She said: “While I have sym­pa­thy with the staff who have con­tacted you, just like them I was an em­ployee of the Glis­ten night­club and have lost my job and am also owed salary.

“I was told that a new man­age­ment team were tak­ing over. I also un­der- stand that they gave an un­der­tak­ing that the out­stand­ing staff salaries and mine would be paid.

“Un­for­tu­nately the club failed to take any money in the first weeks of open­ing so I paid the staff their first fort­night’s wages out of my own per­sonal funds, which I have not re­ceived back.

“I have tried on sev­eral oc­ca­sions to find out what is hap­pen­ing without suc­cess. I have no fur­ther in­for­ma­tion and do not wish to be con­tacted again. I bear no re­spon­si­bil­ity for what has hap­pened and this whole mat­ter has caused me and my fam­ily great dis­tress.”
