Staff unpaid as nightclub closes
STAFF at Glisten nightclub claim to have been left without wages and jobs after the club’s managers shut its doors and said it had been taken over.
The nightclub in Station Road, Ashford, opened in November and employed around 15 bar staff along with door staff and promotions people. But on December 5 the club held its last party and staff now say they do not know what is going to happen to them and the club.
One of those affected is 21-year-old Ashford resident Jenna Daniels, who received an email telling her that the club had been taken over and that the new management team would be in touch.
She said: “There’s at least a few hundred pounds I’m still owed in wages but I haven’t got a clue if and when I’ll see it.
“All of us working there have tried to phone but we can’t get through to anyone. I’m now unemployed and it’s extremely difficult to find another job at the moment. It’s a horrible thing to have happened just before Christmas.”
The last email received by Jenna says that former managers “do not have a contact number” and that “If you are passing by the club it may be worth checking to see if anyone is there”.
The Kentish Express attempted to contact the nightclub but the phone line has been disconnected.
Folkestone resident Amy Adams, 22, who worked in promotions, said: “There just seems to be no news about what is happening. I feel really sorry for the bar staff. For something like this to happen to them just before Christmas is terrible.”
We contacted former personnel manager Janice Wilson by email. She said: “While I have sympathy with the staff who have contacted you, just like them I was an employee of the Glisten nightclub and have lost my job and am also owed salary.
“I was told that a new management team were taking over. I also under- stand that they gave an undertaking that the outstanding staff salaries and mine would be paid.
“Unfortunately the club failed to take any money in the first weeks of opening so I paid the staff their first fortnight’s wages out of my own personal funds, which I have not received back.
“I have tried on several occasions to find out what is happening without success. I have no further information and do not wish to be contacted again. I bear no responsibility for what has happened and this whole matter has caused me and my family great distress.”
