Ashford bucks dole queue rise
EAST Kent bore the brunt of a 189 rise in unemployment across the county last month. The number of people out of work and claiming benefit in Kent and Medway stood at 35,217 on November 12.
Medway’s jobless total went up by 43 to 7,307 (4.6 per cent). Across the rest of Kent, it increased by 146 to 27,910 (3.3 per cent).
Most of the increase came from the east of the county, with an extra 125 people joining the dole queue in Dover, 93 in Shepway and 114 in Thanet. Canterbury’s total edged up by 28. But in Ashford the figure fell by 51 to 1,926 (2.9 per cent decrease).
