Ash­ford bucks dole queue rise

EAST Kent bore the brunt of a 189 rise in un­em­ploy­ment across the county last month. The num­ber of peo­ple out of work and claim­ing ben­e­fit in Kent and Med­way stood at 35,217 on Novem­ber 12.

Med­way’s job­less to­tal went up by 43 to 7,307 (4.6 per cent). Across the rest of Kent, it in­creased by 146 to 27,910 (3.3 per cent).

Most of the in­crease came from the east of the county, with an ex­tra 125 peo­ple join­ing the dole queue in Dover, 93 in Shep­way and 114 in Thanet. Can­ter­bury’s to­tal edged up by 28. But in Ash­ford the fig­ure fell by 51 to 1,926 (2.9 per cent de­crease).
