Ti­tles galore for Bethers­den dur­ing a year to re­mem­ber

BETHERS­DEN Ten­nis Club are cel­e­brat­ing at the end of one of their most suc­cess­ful years. The 150-strong ju­nior sec­tion have won ti­tles in the Ash­ford and District League through the un­der-14 girls, un­der-16 and un­der-18 boys. They also won the un­der-14 and un­der16 girls’ ti­tles in the East Kent Sec­tion of the Na­tional Ju­nior Club League. The club won their divi­sion in the Kent Win­ter Mixed League and both the mixed and men’s Kent League through the sum­mer. The men won their Ash­ford and District League divi­sion, while the mixed team were run­ners-up and the ladies’ mid­week team scooped the Maid­stone/Ash­ford Mid­week Friendly League. David Wal­lis and Sara Nudd won the Open­ing Tour­na­ment at the start of the year. Mother-and-son Jane and Lau­rence Har­vey won the club’s Open mixed tour­na­ment which at­tracted over 40 pairs. Steve Parker and Jo Legg won the men’s and ladies sin­gles events, while Terry Grey and Tim Winch shared the most im­proved player award. Top ju­niors were Jack Ib­bet­son, Steph Wil­ton and El­iza Wal­lis, with Rudi Beerens­son winning the most im­proved award.
