Titles galore for Bethersden during a year to remember
BETHERSDEN Tennis Club are celebrating at the end of one of their most successful years. The 150-strong junior section have won titles in the Ashford and District League through the under-14 girls, under-16 and under-18 boys. They also won the under-14 and under16 girls’ titles in the East Kent Section of the National Junior Club League. The club won their division in the Kent Winter Mixed League and both the mixed and men’s Kent League through the summer. The men won their Ashford and District League division, while the mixed team were runners-up and the ladies’ midweek team scooped the Maidstone/Ashford Midweek Friendly League. David Wallis and Sara Nudd won the Opening Tournament at the start of the year. Mother-and-son Jane and Laurence Harvey won the club’s Open mixed tournament which attracted over 40 pairs. Steve Parker and Jo Legg won the men’s and ladies singles events, while Terry Grey and Tim Winch shared the most improved player award. Top juniors were Jack Ibbetson, Steph Wilton and Eliza Wallis, with Rudi Beerensson winning the most improved award.
