BLIBY CAPTURE PREMIER DIVISION TITLE IN DRAMATIC STYLE AS LATE GOAL SEES OFF A TEAM’S HOPES Supersixes
JOE VALLER’S late winner helped Bliby lift the Ashford Supersixes Premier Division title in a dramatic finale to the season at fEssella Road on Thursday night.
The former Ashford Town and Canterbury City player netted in the 2-1 win over former leaders A Team who started the evening only needing a draw to win the championship themselves.
Bliby finished a point clear, with Hammers who beat Spirit of 66 by the same score, in third place .
Richard Boorman fired Bliby in front early on but Carlum Macloud levelled for A Team early in the second half, who were happy to shut up shop after that.
Valler, though, struck with five minutes left, his 20-yard effort giving the keeper no chance.
In other games, Bethersden finished with a 2-0 win over relegated Stunts – Shane Smith and Joe McKenzie were on target.
Mean Machine beat United One Two 3-0.
Craig Mitchell grabbed the late equaliser as Willesborough drew 1-1 against nearest rivals Misfits to clinch the Division 1 title.
The game was a tough affair, with few chances created by either side.
Goonies finished fourth after a 3-1 victory over Brabourne, with goals from Josh Hatcher, Joe Mort and Mike Cox.
The Division 2 season still has a month to run but bottom side Wye Bova caused one of the season’s biggest upsets with a surprise 2-1 win over Hillbillies – their first victory in 14 starts
Pas Intreri and Lee Collett were Wye Bova’s scorers.
Tom Poyner and Leigh Simmons earned Division 2 leaders All Stars a 2-0 win over Wyeld Boys.
Sam and Ben Strover netted as second-placed TN Stars eased to a 4-1 victory over Maulers, while Choggers drew 0-0 with Welsh Dragons.
The league now takes a break for Christmas and resumes on Thursday, January 7.
