Arrest after drugs alert near school
POLICE swooped after complaints of a suspected drug dealer around Ashford’s Norton Knatchbull School.
Cannabis was seized in a raid and one man was arrested.
A South Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police in Ashford responded to complaints from local residents and staff at Norton Knatchbull School about a man thought to be dealing drugs in the area.”
Officers carried out a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Gordon Close, Ashford.
Police say that during the raid they found a quantity of herbal cannabis which had been packaged in preparation to be supplied.
They also found a “substantial” amount of cash and suspected stolen clothing.
Police said there was no information that drugs had been sold to schoolchildren but concerns had been raised because the alleged dealing had been so close to the school.
The police raid on December 22 saw a suspect arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply and handling stolen goods.
The 22-year-old has since been released on police bail until March 3 pending further inquiries.
