FANCY dress fans braved cold weather for a bracing Boxing Day dip.

More than 200 people took part in the event at Sunny Sands beach in Folkestone, raising more than £10,200 in sponsorship for about 50 charities.

Stephen Lowe, of organisers Folkestone Lions Club, said: “A lot of effort was put in by a lot of the people.”

The dippers just missed the Boxing Day rain and were given hot toddies and a Boxing Day Dip medal as a thank-you for taking part.

Four awards were given out on the day.

Ewan Apperley, six, scooped the award for Youngest Dipper and historian Alan Taylor won the Oldest Dipper trophy.

The Best Dressed Individual award was taken by Simon Jones while Reece and Susie McIntosh were awarded Best Dressed Group for appearing as a witch and warlock.
