All set for Army ca­reers

THREE Ash­ford teenagers have sworn their Oath of Al­le­giance to the Bri­tish Army af­ter grad­u­at­ing from IM­PACT, a 13 week em­ploy­ment course for stu­dents. They are: Lay­on­hard Coates, 17, from Stan­hope, Ash­ford – a for­mer stu­dent of Ash­ford’s Christ Church C of E School who is join­ing the Royal Reg­i­ment of Ar­tillery. He has two broth­ers al­ready serv­ing in Ger­many, and his sis­ter has also started the ap­pli­ca­tion process to join the Bri­tish Army Mitchell Pop­man, 16, from Ash­ford is also a for­mer Christ Church stu­dent who is join­ing the Princess of Wales’s Royal Reg­i­ment (PWRR). He is fol­low­ing in the foot­steps of his fa­ther who was also in the PWRR for 20 years. Stephen Slann, 16, from Kingsnorth, Ash­ford, is a for­mer stu­dent of Home­wood School in Ten­ter­den and is join­ing the PWRR. The cer­e­mony marked the trio’s first step to a ca­reer in the Bri­tish Army. On Jan­uary 3 they are due to start a 42-week train­ing course at the Army Foun­da­tion Col­lege.
