All set for Army careers
THREE Ashford teenagers have sworn their Oath of Allegiance to the British Army after graduating from IMPACT, a 13 week employment course for students. They are: Layonhard Coates, 17, from Stanhope, Ashford – a former student of Ashford’s Christ Church C of E School who is joining the Royal Regiment of Artillery. He has two brothers already serving in Germany, and his sister has also started the application process to join the British Army Mitchell Popman, 16, from Ashford is also a former Christ Church student who is joining the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (PWRR). He is following in the footsteps of his father who was also in the PWRR for 20 years. Stephen Slann, 16, from Kingsnorth, Ashford, is a former student of Homewood School in Tenterden and is joining the PWRR. The ceremony marked the trio’s first step to a career in the British Army. On January 3 they are due to start a 42-week training course at the Army Foundation College.
