Nearly £5k raised for memorial to car crash victims
SOCIAL club members have raised nearly £5,000 towards a memorial for two friends killed in a car crash.
Members of Ashford International Sports and Social Club have held two auctions and various collections in honour of grandmother Denise Head, 49, and great-grandad Brian Moon, 67, who were killed in the tragedy in Beaver Road, Ashford, in October.
Both were longstanding members of the Beaver Road club, where they had been enjoying a night out with friends before they were struck by a car as they walked home.
Phyllis Wanstall, Julie Scorah and her 12-year-old niece Rosina Brown were injured. Rosina suffered serious head injuries.
Treasurer of the club Alf Brown said generous volunteers have helped raise £4,784 so far. It will pay for a memorial bench in the club’s outdoor sports area and be used to help Rosina.
Stefan Stanko pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to two charges of causing death by dangerous driving.
Sentencing of the 24-year-old Slovak from Gravesend was adjourned for reports until after January 13.
