Nearly £5k raised for memo­rial to car crash vic­tims

SO­CIAL club mem­bers have raised nearly £5,000 to­wards a memo­rial for two friends killed in a car crash.

Mem­bers of Ash­ford In­ter­na­tional Sports and So­cial Club have held two auc­tions and var­i­ous col­lec­tions in hon­our of grand­mother Denise Head, 49, and great-grandad Brian Moon, 67, who were killed in the tragedy in Beaver Road, Ash­ford, in Oc­to­ber.

Both were long­stand­ing mem­bers of the Beaver Road club, where they had been en­joy­ing a night out with friends be­fore they were struck by a car as they walked home.

Phyl­lis Wanstall, Julie Scorah and her 12-year-old niece Rosina Brown were in­jured. Rosina suf­fered se­ri­ous head in­juries.

Trea­surer of the club Alf Brown said gen­er­ous vol­un­teers have helped raise £4,784 so far. It will pay for a memo­rial bench in the club’s out­door sports area and be used to help Rosina.

Ste­fan Stanko pleaded guilty at Maid­stone Crown Court to two charges of caus­ing death by danger­ous driv­ing.

Sen­tenc­ing of the 24-year-old Slo­vak from Gravesend was ad­journed for re­ports un­til af­ter Jan­uary 13.
