Olympian’s support for club’s fundraising raffle
YOUNG footballers got a big help from Olympic cyclist Jamie Staff at a raffle to raise money for their club.
Held at the Woolpack Inn, Smeeth, villagers bought tickets for the Smeeth and Brabourne Football Club raffle and managed to raise £700 for the club.
Fundraiser Sylvia Tanner said: “All the money will go to the football club so all the children can enjoy playing the game.
“When we started the club we had about nine children and now we’ve got more than 60, which is amazing for such a little village.
“It was a really good night and we were lucky to have Jamie there, who is friends with the chairman and was happy to help out by handing out the prizes.”
The 36-year-old, whose parents live in Brabourne, also donated some Team GB goodies for prizes.
Mrs Tanner added: “I’d just like to say a huge thank-you to Paul and Nikki Guest at the Woolpack for hosting the event for us and everyone in the villages of Smeeth and Brabourne for helping out and buying tickets.”
