FROM dog ends to the cat’s whiskers – care home manager Melissa Hayes has bought a new car with money she has saved from giving up smoking. The 36-year-old Ashford woman was smoking 30 cigarettes a day and suffering from frequent chest infections, so joined a quit smoking group at Ashford’s Stour Centre. She said: “It was the right time for me to say goodbye to cigarettes. “I was a little apprehensive at first but talked through the process with my adviser Linda. “We made a date and then planned and prepared towards my quit day. “I used patches and an inhalator, which gave me something to do with my hands and a small hit of nicotine when I needed it.” A new website www.smokefreeea sternandcoastalkent.co.uk will be rolled out in January which will offer interactive support to help others quit. Stop smoking manager Graham Thomas said: “With the range of support at your fingertips there has never been an easier time to quit smoking. “As well as the huge benefits to your health you can use the money you save to treat yourself or someone close to you.”

If you would like to follow in Melissa’s footsteps and swap ash for cash call 0800 849 4444 or text QUIT to 87023.
