Violent crime and robberies increase as crime total rises
THE latest police figures show that in November the number of crimes rose in Ashford.
There were 559 incidents last November compared with 533 in the same month of 2008.
There were 101 violent incidents in November 2008 which rose to 121 in 2009.
Robberies were up from three to nine.
However, burglaries fell from 64 incidents to 50 and anti-social behaviour, the biggest problem dealt with by police, fell from 296 to 262.
Shepway saw a slight drop in total crime from 537 incidents in November 2008 to 499 in 2009.
In Shepway, burglaries rose from 51 to 56 and anti-social behaviour went up from 329 to 339.
Robbery, vehicle crime and violence all fell.
Crime in the borough fell by eight per cent while in Shepway it fell by three per cent.
In Dover crime rose by nearly 10 per cent and in Canterbury it rose by 13 per cent.
