Vi­o­lent crime and rob­beries in­crease as crime to­tal rises

THE lat­est po­lice fig­ures show that in Novem­ber the num­ber of crimes rose in Ash­ford.

There were 559 in­ci­dents last Novem­ber com­pared with 533 in the same month of 2008.

There were 101 vi­o­lent in­ci­dents in Novem­ber 2008 which rose to 121 in 2009.

Rob­beries were up from three to nine.

How­ever, bur­glar­ies fell from 64 in­ci­dents to 50 and anti-so­cial be­hav­iour, the big­gest prob­lem dealt with by po­lice, fell from 296 to 262.

Shep­way saw a slight drop in to­tal crime from 537 in­ci­dents in Novem­ber 2008 to 499 in 2009.

In Shep­way, bur­glar­ies rose from 51 to 56 and anti-so­cial be­hav­iour went up from 329 to 339.

Rob­bery, ve­hi­cle crime and vi­o­lence all fell.

Crime in the bor­ough fell by eight per cent while in Shep­way it fell by three per cent.

In Dover crime rose by nearly 10 per cent and in Can­ter­bury it rose by 13 per cent.
