WORK on a facelift for the pedestrian bridge alongside Ashford International Station is going well. The bridge over the dual carriageway has been covered in scaffolding for several weeks. Operators Eurostar say contractors are painting the walkway which runs from the station to the car park on the other side of Romney Marsh Road. Eurostar spokesman Richard Holligan said: “Essentially the bridge is being painted – and because of the access that needed scaffolding. “It’s an 18-week process but it should still be completely accessible to the public. “Hopefully, it’s going to look a lot smarter once it is finished.” On the domestic side of the station plans for an attractive public square with seating, landscaping and improved pathways in the forecourt have been submitted. If granted, the first phase of the work is expected to start in June. And it could be finished by spring next year.
