FARMERS in Ashford and Tenterden are preparing to open their gates to visitors on Open Farm Sunday, which takes place this year on June 13. The annual event is organised by LEAF – Linking Environment and Farming – and supported by Natural England. It aims to show how farms are run and where food comes from. Bank Farm, Aldington; Biddenden Vineyards, Biddenden; the Godinton Estate, Ashford; and Silcocks Farm, St Michael’s, near Tenterden, are just some of the farms signed up so far. Monkshill Farm, at Hernhill, near Faversham, will also open for anyone wanting to travel a bit further afield A visit to a farm on Open Farm Sunday is a great way to meet the farmers who grow food and see how they care for the countryside. It could include a tractor and trailer ride, an opportunity to see sheep being sheared, cows being milked or even chicks hatching. There will also be farm walks and nature trails.
