South Foreland build up momentum in tournament
IT was a day of mixed fortunes for the Folkestone youngsters who represented South Foreland in the Kent under-15 junior inter-regional tournament at Canterbury.
South Foreland’s opening match was against Medway, a team packed with county players and although they lost all of their games, the Folkestone players gave a good account of themselves. Greg Dewey and Daniel Lennox Kay went close to winning the boys’ doubles.
South Foreland’s second match was against Tunbridge Wells, who won 5-2. The two victories came from Ryan Nash, South Foreland’s Kent under13 singles champion and Nash and Deanna Hills in the mixed pairs.
North Foreland were their next opponents and South Foreland slipped to a 4-3 defeat. Dewey partnered Nash to victory in the boys’ doubles and South Foreland also won the mixed doubles games.
By the time they faced Orpington in their final match, South Foreland were gaining confidence and powered to a 6-1 victory.
South Foreland team manager Frank New said: “With several of the team too old next season, the club will need to start developing its younger talents now in preparation for 2011.
“There are several boys likely to fit the bill but the problem will be finding and developing the younger girls who at the moment are in short supply.
“Any girls who enjoy games and sport are welcome to visit South Foreland Badminton Club any Saturday morning.”
