Man accused of murder of mum-of-six faces court
THE man accused of murdering Susie Smith in an alleyway in Ashford appeared at Maidstone Crown Court last Thursday.
Steven Brooker, of Waterman House, Godfrey Walk, spoke only to be identified and to acknowledge he understood the proceedings at the brief hearing.
He is accused of killing the 50-year-old mother-of-six, also known as Susie Beaney, on April 29.
The grandmother-of-15 died in the William Harvey Hospital after being found in the alleyway between Christchurch Road and Godfrey Walk soon after 6.45pm.
The alley was was closed while the scene was examined.
Friends and family have left flowers at the scene.
One from her children reads: “To mum, we love you and will miss you.
“Never thought it would end this way.
“Wish we could have had more laughs and years together. We will always be thinking of you and you will always be in our hearts.”
Brooker, 42, was remanded in custody until July 1, when he is due to enter a plea to the charge.
Judge Jeremy Carey set a provisional trial date of November 16.
An inquest into Susie Smith’s death was due to be opened and adjourned today (Thursday) at Ashford Magistrates’ Court.
