Your vote can help to give school a cash lift
PUPILS at a school in Ashford are hoping to win a £7,500 makeover for their playground – and they need your help.
Year 6 pupils Millie Cronin, 10, and Grace Hollingsworth, 11, entered the competition, run by the KM Group and Denne, so their playground at Victoria Road Primary School can be more fun.
They have now reached the final and are appealing for help to win the top prize, for which they are competing with 19 schools across the county.
Grace said: “I’d like to spend the money on lots of different equipment. We would like to repaint the hopscotch and stepping stones and have some permanent markings on the ground.
“There’s not much greenery in the playground and there’s nowhere to sit so it would be nice if we could have some benches with planters at the end to attract wildlife.”
Major roadworks are due to start outside the school and it is hoped the money will help cheer the children up over the noise and dust of diggers.
Millie added: “We’d also like a sandpit and we could also get some new toys like balls and skipping ropes and we’d also like some dressing up clothes and a big play house.”
The school would also like to construct a climbing frame in the playground.
Readers can help the children by collecting the token on this page and donating it to the school.
The school getting the most votes on a pro-rata basis, compared to the pupil headcount, will win.
Tokens will appear in the paper until June 3 while a special token worth five points will be printed on June 10. The winner will be announced on June 24.
