Com­pe­ti­tion to build new school

THERE is just a month to go for any­one in­ter­ested in build­ing their own school in Ash­ford to get in touch with Kent County Coun­cil.

The com­pe­ti­tion is open to any­one who can put to­gether a work­able busi­ness plan for a pri- mary school in Goat Lees. Fi­nal sub­mis­sions must be re­ceived by June 14 with plans to open the school in Septem­ber 2012.

KCC ed­u­ca­tion boss Sarah Hohler is­sued the pub­lic no­tice invit­ing school plans af­ter the over­whelm­ing de­mand for an­other pri­mary school in Ken­ning­ton. The area has re­cently seen the com­ple­tion of 730 homes on the Goat Lees es­tate.

Pro­posers can in­clude the gov­er­nors of an ex­ist­ing school, ed­u­ca­tional char­i­ties, faith groups, par­ent groups, com­mu­nity groups, not-for-profit or­gan­i­sa­tions, busi­nesses and higher ed­u­ca­tion in­sti­tutes.

KCC has also opened a com­pe­ti­tion in con­junc­tion with the Ken­tish Ex­press with chil­dren from the Goat Lees area be­ing asked to de­sign their dream school.

The de­signs will go on show at a pub­lic meet­ing on July 20. This will be open to all res­i­dents at the Goat Lees com­mu­nity hall and will have all the re­ceived plans on show.

Chil­dren can send their de­signs to My Dream School, 3436 North Street, Ash­ford, Kent TN24 8JR.

En­tries must be sub­mit­ted by June 30. The win­ning en­try will have their art­work on the front page of the of­fi­cial con­sul­ta­tion doc­u­ment.
