Competition to build new school
THERE is just a month to go for anyone interested in building their own school in Ashford to get in touch with Kent County Council.
The competition is open to anyone who can put together a workable business plan for a pri- mary school in Goat Lees. Final submissions must be received by June 14 with plans to open the school in September 2012.
KCC education boss Sarah Hohler issued the public notice inviting school plans after the overwhelming demand for another primary school in Kennington. The area has recently seen the completion of 730 homes on the Goat Lees estate.
Proposers can include the governors of an existing school, educational charities, faith groups, parent groups, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, businesses and higher education institutes.
Anyone interested in the competition can find out more by emailing school.consultations @kent.gov.uk
KCC has also opened a competition in conjunction with the Kentish Express with children from the Goat Lees area being asked to design their dream school.
The designs will go on show at a public meeting on July 20. This will be open to all residents at the Goat Lees community hall and will have all the received plans on show.
Children can send their designs to My Dream School, 3436 North Street, Ashford, Kent TN24 8JR.
Entries must be submitted by June 30. The winning entry will have their artwork on the front page of the official consultation document.
