Anglers land a great catch for school funds
EIGHTEEN anglers braved rain and wind to raise more than £660 for Ashford’s Wyvern School for children with special needs. Use of the Chequer Tree Fishery in Bethersden, where the event was staged, was given free of charge by owner Chris Drew. Raffle prizes were donated by Ashford Angling on the Ellingham Industrial Estate, Powawalker and Downham Tackle in South London. Gary Buckmaster, a member of the Epsom Piscatorial Angling Club, won the trophy for the best overall catch, landing fish weighing 59lbs. The money raised will be used to fund the school’s ‘points’ stall which allows pupils to exchange points earned from good work for gifts and treats at the end of each week. Event organisers Marion and John Squire thanked everyone who took part in or sponsored the day.
