Youngster presents trophy renamed in tribute to his dad
A POIGNANT hand-over took place when a boy presented a football trophy renamed after his late father to the winning team.
Dave Padgham – a well-know figure in junior football circles – died earlier this year from melanoma.
As a lasting tribute to Mr Padgham the Ashford and District Youth Football League (ADYFL) renamed its under-12 cup the Dave Padgham Memorial Cup.
The cup final was contested by teams from Wye Juniors FC and Great Chart at Sellindge Sports Club, with a hard-fought final seeing Wye eventually triumphing 4-2. Mr Padgham’s son Max attended the match and presented the cup to victorious Wye Juniors’ captain Jack Wilkins.
Kevin Barlow, the Wye Juniors FC under-12s’ manager and ADYFL chairman, said: “This year we renamed the under-12 cup the Dave Padgham Memorial Cup after the sad loss of Dave earlier this year.
He was a great stalwart and supporter of youth football and will be sadly missed by all.
“It was great that Max was able to be there to present the cup now named after his dad to the winners’ captain.”
