YOU can def­i­nitely let the train take the strain when a new lux­ury rail com­pany launches ser­vices from Ash­ford later this month.

Satur­day, May 29, sees the first up­mar­ket Amethyst Rail train leave Ash­ford for Bath and Bris­tol.

Amethyst is tar­get­ing the lux­ury days out mar­ket with Pull­man first class coaches which it says of­fers pas­sen­gers a ‘wow’ ex­pe­ri­ence.

The first train will by pulled by the A1 Pa­cific steam lo­co­mo­tive Tor­nado, which will pick up pas­sen­gers at var­i­ous Kent sta­tions be­fore head­ing west.

Pas­sen­gers will be wel­comed aboard with a glass of Bucks Fizz, fol­lowed by a full English break­fast and prior to ar­rival at Bath and Bris­tol a light lunch will be served.

Trav­ellers can then en­joy the day in ei­ther city be­fore board­ing the train for the re­turn, dur­ing which a five-course sil­ver ser­vice din­ner will be served.

Amethyst Rail (www.amethys­t­ex­pe­ri­ has been founded by Jim Hall, a se­nior rail­way in­dus­try fig­ure, and Dave Wilsmore , who has spent over 30 years in the travel busi­ness.

Jim Hall said: “We want to of­fer lux­ury travel to peo­ple liv­ing out- side London. For years Kent’s pas­sen­gers have had to put up with over­priced, over­crowded and slow trains on Bri­tain’s Cin­derella lines. We are bring­ing the golden age of glam­orous travel back to the county.”

The train will de­part from Ash­ford around 7am and pick up pas­sen­gers at Head­corn, Pad­dock Wood, Ton­bridge, Sevenoaks, Or­p­ing­ton, Brom­ley South and Kens­ing­ton Olympia.

Fares for the trip are – first class in­clud­ing full din­ing £219; first class with light snacks £159 and stan­dard class £99.
