ASH­FORD Town swim­mers re­turned from the 2010 Kent Cham­pi­onships with 14 medals, six club records and nu­mer­ous per­sonal bests. Megan Lee be­came triple county cham­pion tak­ing gold medals in the 14 year girls’ 50m, 100m and 200m breast­stroke events, break­ing four club records in the process. In ad­di­tion, she gained a fur­ther three sil­ver medals, a fourth and two fifth places. Melissa Grace claimed her first county ti­tle by win­ning the 15 year 50m but­ter­fly. She also picked up a bronze, a fourth and a fifth place and two club records. Ash­ford’s other medal win­ners were Ciaran Slater who took sixth place in the 200m but­ter­fly and Tom Slater who took sixth place in 200m but­ter­fly. Chloe Law, Jes­sica Richards, Katie Owen and Roland Simms all qual­i­fied to swim, and rep­re­sented the club well. Stephanie Owen joined Lee, Grace and Richards to swim in the 14/15 year girls’ re­lay team. Both Lee and Grace have qual­i­fied for the South East Re­gion Cham­pi­onships, where they hope to carry on their good form, against the best swim­mers in the re­gion. Four gold medals rep­re­sents Ash­ford’s most suc­cess­ful county cham­pi­onships for some time.
