Ju­niors make solid start

HYTHE LTC’s ju­niors have made a good start in the Na­tional AE­GON Team Ten­nis league, with Alex Fer­gu­son and Tim Porter win­ning their sin­gles and dou­bles to tri­umph 3-0 at Faver­sham in the 18 and un­der boys’ sec­tion.

Joe Shields and Daniel Knott dropped just one tie-break dou­bles match in a three-way 14 and un­der fix­ture in Ash­ford against Bethersden, Can­ter­bury A and Can­ter­bury B, win­ning three sin­gles matches each and two dou­bles.

In the 14 and un­der girls’ cat­e­gory, Freya Cough­lan and Pamela Cryer lost to the strong team from David Lloyd King­shill.

The club’s men’s 1st team of Hugh Wal­ter, Matt Her­bert, Chris Turn­bull and Andy Rice pro­duced a good open­ing re­sult in the East Kent League Di­vi­sion 1, beat­ing Bearsted 3-1.

Hythe came away from their first Kent League sum­mer mixed match at Black­heath with a 5-4 over­all sets win.

All four matches proved to be com­pet­i­tive, with Neil Fors­dike/ Sharon Ke­haya and Micky Alldritt/Jenny Gar­rard both win­ning and los­ing.

In their sec­ond match, Hythe had an­other close re­sult, against Sy­den­ham – 2-2 in rub­bers, 4-4 in sets but 38-37 in games.

The ladies lost 3-1 against Bearsted.
