Book tells story of the courage of The Few
A NEW edition of a book about the Battle of Britain is to be published to mark this year’s 70th anniversary of the event.
The anniversary has already inspired renewed public interest in the bravery of those who saved this country from invasion in the summer of 1940.
The publication of an enlarged and updated third edition of Men of the Battle of Britain by Kenneth G Wynn will be welcomed by historians, authors and researchers alike.
The book provides at least some biographical information on every one of the almost 3,000 Allied airmen who flew in the battle, together with photographs of many of them.
It was first published in 1989, with a later supplementary volume and a second edition in 1999.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, which established the memorial at Capel in 1993, has acquired the rights to the book thanks to a significant anonymous donation to trust funds, and the new edition will be published by Halsgrove in association with the Trust.
The annual parade and memorial service on July 11 will this year be attended by the trust’s patron, Prince Michael of Kent.
Trust chairman Richard Hunting said: “We are honoured, too, to have the support in this venture of the Battle of Britain Fighter Association, the body of which only The Few may be full members.”
Details on the book’s publication date and price will be announced as soon as possible.
