Golden boy backs Eurostar

OLYMPIC gold medal­list Jamie Staff vis­ited Eurostar work­ers to mark the com­pany’s newlyan­nounced spon­sor­ship of the London Games. Mr Staff was at the Ash­ford Con­tact Cen­tre, the Eurostar calls site as the com­pany was re­vealed as the 30th do­mes­tic spon­sor for 2012. The 2008 Games cham­pion, orig­i­nally from Brabourne Lees, toured the Sta­tion Road site and chat­ted to work­ers. The high-speed rail com­pany has be­come Of­fi­cial In­ter­na­tional Rail Ser­vices Provider, trans­port­ing Games com­peti­tors and work­ers to and from St Pan­cras In­ter­na­tional. Out­side this spon­sor­ship with LOCOG (London Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games) the cross-Chan­nel op­er­a­tor will also carry spec­ta­tors. It has also be­come a part­ner of the French and Bel­gian Olympic com­mit­tees, which means these coun­tries’ teams will travel to and from the Games on Eurostar. LOCOG chair­man Se­bas­tian Coe said: “We are thrilled that Eurostar has come on board as a London 2012 part­ner. They are an iconic brand.” Nicolas Petro­vic, chief ex­ec­u­tive of Eurostar, said: “We will play a crit­i­cal role in bring­ing peo­ple from all over Europe.”
